    Deloreans and Fieros

The next DMA thing is in Toll Jersey and they are teaming up with the Fiero group. I'm not going because I'm lazy and have too many things to do this weekend otherwise, but I'm interested in hearing the reports back. At some point I believe the Bricklins did a team up but that didn't work out too well for whatever reason. I'm not saying Brickin owners dress up in bedazzled denim and touch kids, but I'm not saying they don't either.

Anyway, I liked Fieros well enough in the 90s, but the differences in production numbers lead to a different cuture. Thirty years later, rough and ready cars are still $2K, and the group distribution would be Goldman Sachs 1%er cars and then everybody else. If the car seems to develop any major or even minor issue, boom, it's parts.

Maybe Delorean and Fiero owners have one commonality, and that is the urge to modify plagues them because they are not shining stars among your wine and brie collectors. Fieros are shamed by being forced to wear Ferrari body kits. Deloreans get time machine shit stapled to them. That sort of abuse.

This post had no overall point other than being a random assemblage of observations tied together for no other reason than the douchebag OP felt like thinking out loud.

The last gen GT Fieros were damn good looking cars.

It's a bold move to manufacture rarely used transmission filters for a rarely used car, but then again I'm a bold guy......Is "bold" the right word?

I've owned all three;to summarize it, here's how the groups act:

    Bricklin Owners:
"These cars are great. I din't understand why Malcolm didn't succeed. You know John DeLorean copied this car, but made it worse, right?! Design flaw? That's not a design flaw; it's a mark of character. If you don't love everything about this car you don't deserve to own the finest automobile in the world."

    DeLorean Owners:
"No, you can't modify your car; unless you want to make it even slower and awkward to drive by bolting BTTF crap to it. That's OK. It's not meant to be fast. If you want a fast car, sell it and buy something else. This is the car for people who want to drive around slowly while listening to the BTTF soundtrack, pretending they're Marty McFly, and fantasizing about Lorraine."

    Fiero Owners:
"Replace the 30-year-old coolant hoses? Why? They're not leaking. Hey, I was going to buy washers for the intake, but, since I plan on swapping in a 3800, I decided I'd make my own by using a hole punch and one of the dozen empty cans of Monster enegy drink I have lying around."

I'll be there and will report back.

I'm going to tell everyone my car weighs 8 tons and is made of cocaine wrapped in aluminum (read that one on Talk...gonna steal it.)

I tell people that my DeLorean is a Fiero with a body kit all the time; just ask Steve.

    I think it'll probably be ~$50.

I was looking into getting a fiero at one point and maybe creating some odd kit car monstrosity.

Then one day I was able to actually sit in one and realized my tall lanky ass just doesn't fit in there. I was sitting in the seat with my head on the ceiling and my neck tilted to the side. That is not a comfortable driving position.

It is very difficult to find a cool little sports car that tall guys can really fit in. Maybe most sports cars are made for small men to help them with over compensating whatever issue they have.

Fieros were made for cutting edge 1980s mulleteers below 5'10", of which I was one.

If I bought a Fiero, it would have to be a 1988 model. I want that super-sophisticated trailing arm suspension that everyone's all 'ooh ooh ooh' about.
