    Insulting of Forum Members

There is a line between playful banter and insults. While the context of the internet may make it difficult to discern one from the other, it will fall upon us to use our best judgement.

If your words and context can be taken to be intentionally derogatory, such action will not be permitted.

If your actions seem deliberate, you will be privately warned. IF the actions continue, then there will be consequences.

The goal here is not to eliminate playful banter or to babysit a group of adults. The intent is to prevent this forum from degrading into insults. If you have something negative to say, you have a right to say it if it's true. However, context is expected. If you have an issue, mention the issue. If the problem is how you were treated, then explain what you were expecting vs what you received. Unprovoked attacks on other members will not be permitted.

I feel the 'words or context can be taken deliberately' is too subjective.
Again how is 'playful banting' displays as such to be clear for all to see ?

Turning into the 'tight ship' are we?
    Just think about that guys.

Maybe thread dedicated to putting all 'insulting' comments in but that would mess up continuity really bad. I still don't see the line between insulting and snarky.

To illustrate that, if someone says something like "DMCH makes shitty dashes" and follows it up with "James Espey is an ass" that's an insult with no context.

If someone says, "I complained about the poor quality of an expensive part that I bought from DMCH and James told me that my options were to live with it or make my own. He's an ass." that is an unfavorable assessment based on treatment.

If you keep saying "James is an ass" after every post you make regarding DMCH, then that's unnecessary insulting.

If James were to have a user title that said "An Ass" and you randomly call him one, that's not insulting.

The goal here is perceived intent. It doesn't take a rocket surgeon to figure out when someone's trying to be insulting or playful. Deliberate insults solely for the sake of insults are not acceptable.

So let me get this straight. If I say "Bill screwed me on my carb setup by sending me two faulty carb's and now he won't own up to making it right and has treated me wrongly. Bill is an asshole."
    That's ok?

Even though there an 'insult' in there? So it really JUST has to be in context ?

Let's just make it clear that I don't take personal offense of Rish calling me a Rick for no reason except that he did work in his car and is making progress. And that Ron saying "Steve Sucks" does NOT constitute government action.

Rish! Did you call Lou a Rick?? Shame on you Rish!

It's a bold move to manufacture rarely used transmission filters for a rarely used car, but then again I'm a bold guy......Is "bold" the right word?

That is OK if it's posted in the review thread and left at that. I would recommend including phrasing like "In my experience" to make it "Bill screwed me on my carb setup by sending me two faulty carb's and now he won't own up to making it right and has treated me wrongly. In my experiences dealing with him, Bill has been an asshole."

That way, it's 100% a review of how you've been treated instead of a judgement of him as a person.

Is that clearer? The emphasis should be on the issue, not the man.
