While I have the occasional run-on sentence, I abhor syntactic errors and double negatives.

Sorry, I'm with Rich on the insure/ensure thing. Even though the various dictionaries say you can use "insure" in this manner, they are clearly wrong.

Ron got me years ago when I complained about using "grill" instead of "grille" on our cars - he must have shares in a dictionary company.

HAHAHA...I love it it! (But I still disagree...can't use "insured" in this case.)

I need this split to make a Grammar-Nazi thread, I'll post a follow up on this very important discussion!

If by, "in this case", you meant the one you quoted (it SHOULD have been ;-), note I chose to use "insure" as YOU insisted it should be used!
And here I thought I plugged that hole by adding "not by them", I.E. the sellers, not their acid.

If that is not the case (shame on you), let's use Merriam-Webster, as you did dictionary.com:
    "insure
    ...
:to make (something) sure, certain, or safe"
=> "to make paint adhesion sure, certain, or safe"

I defer to the Oxford English, and darn it if it isn't faulty as well.
