That's probably more cars than I have driven; I don't keep count, but I've logged more miles in a day than he has. I've put about 60k cumulative miles on various DeLoreans.

For me, there's a big difference between 3-speed auto and 5-speed manual.

The first 5-speed I test-drove(VIN 6033) was a perspective purchase that I stopped to look at on the way to meet with Bill at Justin Mettee's. It was everything I imagined it would be, and later that day I drove Bill's car so that was two in one day (schwing!!)

Favorite anecdote from the ride home from picking up 10372 with my Dad:

Me: "I'm totally selling this car to get a 5-speed....this is going to be my starter DeLorean."
    Dad: "I don't know why you're so worked up about a stick-shift."
Me: "It's a sports car, why even make an auto-trans sports car?"
Dad: "Why make a 130HP sports car?"

    Me: Blank look....no comeback -lol!

The appropriate comeback would have been:

"It was mis-marketed as a sports car - it's really a grand tourer"

Remember, DeLorean was given a choice by Renault when he ordered the PRVs from them - do you want power or economy? When he made the order, it was the height of the gas crisis, causing him to choose 'economy' over power. Not that an extra 20-30 bhp would have radically changed things, but at least the car would have performed as well as the factory claimed. Instead the automotive press had a field day dissing the car for its failure to perform at the factory specs (and contrary to popular believe in the community, it had nothing to do with euro-spec vs us emissions standards, as there were no euro-spec exhausts from the factory, not to mention that the exhaust restrictions only accounted for a 8bhp difference at best anyway).

I could never do that after all of my shenanigans he has put up with!

FWIW, my Dad is from the musclecar era, worked at a Pontiac dealership, and is a JD fan. The GTO is one of my Dad's favorites.

*edit: I remember one of my Dad's friends had a GTO in the 70's. It had a linelock, and it was ridiculously badass....replaced tires on it regularly.
